Okay, I've never actually done a blog post before so here goes.
As of September 9 2010, I officially completed my BC (big chop) and I must say I was surprised to discover that I have some serious curl pattern going on with my natural hair. I didn't wear perms young, but every Sunday until I was about 12 years old, my mom would wash and braid my hair and then we would take down the braided sections and press my hair into submission.
When I was 12, I had a perm professionally applied to my head and watched over the next few months as my hair, which would need a touch-up by two weeks later, began to grow weak and break -so this was followed quickly by my first "cut-for-style," which was really just a desperate attempt to keep as much hair as possible - back to the pressing comb.
I flirted off and on with the perm thing all the way through high school, but my hair just never thrived that way. When I graduated in 1997, the rage was the short natural like Eve, so I cut my hair completely off and bleached it to a honeyed blond color. Fast forward to 2010. I have once again cut my hair and this time I vow never to chemically process it again. I have a gorgeous 1 year old daughter--PJ, who I want to always know that her hair is beautiful with those wonderful tiny curls. I truly believe in leading by example so here we are at the beginning of my journey.
